***Students may take online proctored testing in any testing center of the college or at another college with permission or proctored in the military by permission. However, Proctor U requires a separate $25 charge for each exam with a time limit of two hours. In the testing centers student have unlimited time as long as they allow that extra time within the hours of that testing center. It should be noted at when the testing center closes, it closes whether you are finished with the test or not. Paper & Pencil Unit Exams are only administered by the testing centers of North Campus and Deerwood Center.
The Traditional Student-Option 1's 1000 total points is a combination of in-class weekly chapter test, the midterm and End term finals, and other assigned paper & pencil and online activities. If an Option 1 Traditional Student is absent from class on test day, then they have 7 days to complete the weekly test in the test center or earn a zero. The midterms, end terms, and final may be completed in the testing center (by request) so that the student needing more than 75 to 90 minutes will have two plus hours to complete these exams. (They may be open book as determined by the instructor prior to the Midterm or the End Term.)
The Traditional Student-Option 2's maximum total points of 1000 is based on the six exams outlined above. All Option 2 testing is closed book and proctored.
The Grading Scale Criteria for either option is
A = 90% or better
B = 80-89 %
C = 65-79 %
D = 50 -64 %
Canvas allows the online grade book to have a group of grades with a running total for each Group.
The in-class paper and pencil test will be a Canvas Group for the entire class.
The midterms will be another Canvas Group for the entire class.
The End Term/Finals will be a separate Canvas Group for the entire class.
The required Traditional Paper & Pencil Homework or CHEM101 Homework will be a separate Canvas Group required by the entire class.
The Regular Student Required Homework will be a separate Canvas Group (Not required of the Traditional Student) and will not count for the Traditional Student's Final Grade.
The first week explorations will be another Canvas Group for the entire class.
The Gasoline and Scientific Method Projects will be a separate Canvas Group required by the entire class.
All the other Cafeteria Plan optional projects will be a separate Canvas Group which will be counted only as extra credit for the Regular Student and will not count for the Traditional Student. All Optional Projects may not be posted in Canvas until the final two weeks of the course (after Thanksgiving)
A goldenrod colored Paper & Pencil Traditional Student Grading Outline will be distributed on the first in-class test day for the student to keep track of their grade progress on the required work for both Regular and Traditional Students.
The Traditional Student may also do any of the Regular Student online activities as outline above but any points earned will NOT count toward their final grade, even though the points are recorded in Canvas Grade Book in the online grand total.
The professor will fill out a goldenrod form for the Traditional Student (both Option 1 & 2) the last week of class from the Canvas Groups and use that sheet to determine the final grad based on the 90%, 80%, 70% criteria (based on ~1000 Points).
The Regular Student will be graded based on the grand total of points showing in Canvas with the final grade criteria listed above (~2000 points).
The professor believes in Baby Steps to achieve success. This is why the Regular Student's grade is massive and very complicated and is kept only electronically by Canvas.
